Wrecks

MS Seattle
ms SeattleThe German freighter MS Seattle is a well known wreck near Kristiansand. The ship  went down in the Korsvikfjorden under the German invasion "Weserubung" on the  9.th April 1940. The ship was on its way into Kristiansand when she came under crossfire between the German cruiser Karlsruhe and the norwegian coastal fortress Odderøya.   The 140 m long ship ends in 70 m and is no dive for beginners! There has been several deaths during sports diving on this wreck, and we do not recommend divers without proper experience to dive on this wreck. Our dive partner arrange day trips to Seattle which includes two dives. After the first dive we will have a break for at least 1 hour before we do the second dive.

Wasserflugzeug Dornier DO-24
Flybåt DornierOutside the airport of Kjevik north of Kristiansand, a wreck of a German Dornier 24 can be seen. The German Flying Boat was used for sea reconnaissance and SAR. On 22.04.1945 it was destroyed by English airplanes at Kjevik airport. Under water it broke into four pieces. You can find the stern, both wings with engines and half the fuselage in 25-32 m depth. Easy to recognise is the place of the front MG-shooter and the cockpit right behind. It is a shore dive and transport to Kjevik will take approx. 30 min by car.

 Mosel V-1605
The German guard boat V-1605 was built in Wesermünde in 1937 as a trawler for Hans Kunkel named Mosel, but was immediately requisitioned by Kriegsmarine in September 1939 and placed in 19 minesveiperflotilje in Kiel. Mosel then got military crew and was named M-1903. The first major assignment for the former trawler was in April 1940 and the invasion of Norway. In those days Mosel has more than enough to do and took part in the salvage of the cruiser Lützow and rescue efforts after the loss of M-1101 \ Foch & Hubert in the Oslo Fjord. In 1943, Mosel transmitted to 16.Vorpostflotilje in Frederikshavn named V-1605. The tasks of this flotilla was escorting of convoys and trade ships, and Moselle was reinforced with a lot of anti-aircraft guns and depth charges to the task. The October 15, 1944 was Moselle ordered to escort Nachsubtanker Norwegen 1915 between Kristiansand and Arendal. Concurrent with this, 27 aircraft of the type Beaufighter and 17 Mosquitos from 144 and 404 squadron is airborn (Banff Strike Wing) in Scotland to posible attack ship between Denmark and Norway. In the afternoon, discover the aircraft Mosel and Inger Johanne, and initiate the attack. Mosel opens fire with his heavy 88mm anti-aircraft gun, and soon after follows the sound of the fire from the other 37mm and 20mm anti-aircraft guns aboard. Within minutes, literally exploded tanker Inger Johanne loaded with petroleum, and the Mosel is heavily damaged by fire from 20mm shells that hit the hull and boiler room. But Mosel fight on, and when the planes attacked at 15:37 hour, the ship is burning from bow to stern. At 15:40 hour Mosel disappear into the depths, and the little convoy had ceased to exist. During the attack it killed 21 people on board the Mosel. The wreck of Mosel was found in 2001 on fifty meters dept of water in relatively good condition. The wreck rests on the keel with a slight heel, and still you can see anti-aircraft guns and other details from the war. Woody and Siri Skar who found the wreck of Mosel in the summer of 2001, wants to hold the position of the wreck "secret" to prevent looting.

MS Tom B.
Tom bThe English freighter is approx. 80 m long. It sank on the 11.09.1958. Diving there is depending on the weather.

MS Gudrun
The 80 m long German freighter "Gudrun" was sunk in 1944. Diving there will be a day-trip, as we drive 2,5 - 3 hours to Flekkefjord. There is a distance to swim at the surface to reach the line of a buoy. Following the line until you find the stern of the ship in 25 m. Maximum Depth is 43m. Gudrun is one of the most beautiful wrecks in Norway and definitely worth the trip

More wrecks
There are certainly more old ship wrecks in the three coves around Skottevig. One is located on the reef directly in front of the plant / dive center and only ten minutes away is an old sailing ship. You can recognize the old wood and old guns. Another old wrecks is located near Korsvik of 12-15 meters.
